One of the many celebrations brought to America, but based on European traditions, is the celebration before Ash Wednesday – a last party before Lent!
The events in Europe are similar to the festivities enjoyed in New Orleans, with parades, masquerades, parties and festivities.
In Switzerland, particularly, it is a time to dress in costume and rebel from the usual “businesslike” countenance.
Here at Teutonia we are having a “kickoff” party called the Kappenabend on Saturday, February 16th when we invite our members to wear their craziest hat and prepare for an evening of fun and laughter – and the selection of the King and Queen of Karneval.
