It all started in Pittsburgh’s Deutschtown in the mid 1800’ s – history books report that there were a multitude of Bier houses with German song being sung and many breweries producing the German staple, pronounced to be food in Bavaria. A young man named John Straub worked for various local brewers and started his own Brewery at a Northside location at Liberty (now Lockhart) street and Main Street. Our local history then ends and we pick up the Brewer’s website reporting that “in 1873 in the town of St Marys PA a brewery was purchased by Peter Straub (born in Felldorf Germany) from his father in law and re-named Straub Brewery. We will let the Straub rep fill in this gap. Almost 150 years later they are still brewing German-style beers and are the third oldest brewery in America.
They will be bringing some of their best to taste in the Biergarten for our pleasure and discussion.
Special T Shirts available for purchase (depending on shipping date) No reservations needed – if weather requires it will be in the Ratskeller.
